Match Report

YMCA girls finished off their league season in impressive style with a win against local rivals Cadley on a sunny morning in Preston. The game started brightly and YMCA were thankful to goalkeeper Olivia Neal who pulled off some fine saves early on. However YMCA took the lead after 20 minutes after good work by Ellie McNally who threaded the ball through to Honey Griffith whose shot looped over the home side goalkeeper to make it 1-0. YMCA soon doubled their lead with leading goalscorer Ellie Etheridge being played in by Lara Pilling and Etheridge made no mistake with a fine finish to make it 2-0. At half time, goalkeeper Neal then made the switch to outfield for her first appearance and Madison Lucas took the gloves. The home side began to come into the game and got a goal back to make it 2-1 after YMCA failed to clear from a corner. The home side then equalised after a fortunate ricochet fell to the Cadley player who made it 2-2. However YMCA were not to be outdone and typified their excellent work ethic all season when Etheridge managed to find some space with 3 minutes remaining to make it 3-2 and win the game. In a excellent team performance Phoebe Davies was notable in defence as was Holly Crossley and Alicia Iredale.
