Key news and reports: WEEKEND 19/20th MARCH 2016

A DOUBLE FOR THE GIRLS - 12s BOYS GO OUT OF COULTON CUP BUT 9s ORANGES AND 11s BOTH CLINCH SEMI FINAL PLACES

For the first time this season both our girls teams claimed victories on the same day on a sunny spring weekend. With the majority of our 16s Girls squad being a year younger that their opponents it's been a bit of a struggle for them this season but have still battled on gamely. They had drawn a couple of games earlier in the campaign but hadn't yet achieved a victory so when fellow strugglers Langho came to Seafield last Sunday it was a realistic opportunity notch of a long awaited victory and it was achance they took with both hands. We were on top from the start and came out 4-0 winners with two goals from Ashleigh Leach and one apiece by Emily Fellows and Chanel Dawson. Our 12s Girls were away to AFC Darwen just a couple of weeks after the two teams had fought out a 1-1 draw at Seafield. This was always looked like being a close game and so it proved. It remained a goalless stalemate at half time but a strike by Honey Griffiths midway through the 2nd half proved enough to give us a hard earned 1-0 victory.

It was Coulton Cup day in the PDPL on Saturday and our 12s Boys had the toughest task taking on league champions BJFF Blades at Seafield. We got off to a decent start though and went ahead with a fine headed goal from Spencer Philllips but the overall strength of the visitors told in the end as they replied three times to go home with a 3-1 victory. However, our 11s and 9s Oranges both achieved victories to claim semi final places. The Oranges emerged 2-1 winners in a hard fough tie at FC Rangers with Liam Roberts and Dan Brimble both on target. Our 11s were at Lytham Juniors where we proved too strong for our neighbours and we made the short trip home with a convincing 8-0 win. Thomas Shuttleworth led the way with a hat trick with Kaiden Pirrie and Harry Gledhill both claiming pairs. A Finn Pearson strike complete our victory
