Sandy win East Beds Charity Cup Final

Friday 27th April 2018. Despite the heavy rain during the day the ground staff at Forde Park Langford had seemingly worked a miracle to ensure the surface for tonights East Beds Charity Cup Final looked in perfect order. Sandy were to take on a very good Elstow Abbey side in what can only be described as monsoon conditions for the entirety of the game.  Sandy started the stronger side and took a 2 goal lead within the first 20 minutes with Jonnie Stratford netting both, including a very well taken 1st goal and were looking comfortable until just before half time. Elstow won a free kick just inside the Sandy half from a wide position and the freekick was lofted into the Sandy 6 yard box. It was met by Elstow's Danny Pilgrim who headed home to bring them back into the game.   The second half was a lot more of an even affair until Max O'Keefe restored Sandy's 2 goal lead when he finished from close range after a Sandy corner. Elstow were now forced to push more and as a result this led to Sandy's fourth. Sandy broke quick and the two Elstow centre backs were swamped by five Sandy attackers who worked the ball well which enabled Sandy's Liam Brophy to finish off the good move. Elstow were to grab a late consilation goal by Mark Allen with a goal given when the linesman said the ball had crossed the goal line after a goalmouth scramble.

Sandy held on for the last few minutes to win what was their final game of the season 4-2 and lift the cup which they had previously won in 2014.
