Çlub news

“Sandy Football Club held its’ Annual General Meeting on Thursday evening with a higher attendance than for some years. Club Chairman, Colin Osborne, gave a resume of the previous season which had been a challenging one with the Saturday 1st Team being relegated to the 1st Division of the Bedfordshire County League but the Club’s Sunday side being promoted to the Premier Division of the Bedford & District Sunday League. Treasurer, Derek Rowntree, presented the annual accounts which showed an upturn in the Club’s Finances. Colin paid tribute to Dorothy Oakley who was retiring as Secretary after seven years in post to concentrate more on caring for the grandchildren and to Doug Oakley also retiring from the Committee.

Michael Scott and Kevin Hallett were re-elected as President and Vice-President respectively as were Colin Osborne, Mark Pallister and Derek Rowntree as Chairman, Vice-Chairman and Treasurer. Colin was also elected as a Life-Member of the Club. James Jacobs, in addition to being Fixture Secretary, takes on the Secretary’s role and Mark Pallister has also taken on the responsibility of Registration Secretary for the Saturday sides which changes to an on-line system. Matt Johnson joins Nathan Morris and Toren Purser on the Committee.

All Managers positions were confirmed with Dean Wren taking on the 1st Team, assisted by Paul Beith and David Smith. Richard Wheatley and Richard Seldon will be running the Reserves side in the newly structured Division 3, with Adam Jones taking over the manager’s position for the Sunday side assisted by Ian Rushton.

The Club is holding an Open Afternoon at Bedford Road Recreation Ground on Saturday 1st July from 2pm to 5pm to which past and new players are welcome together with non-players who would like to assist with the Club. A BBQ will be held.

The Sunday side has already started training which is on Thursday evenings at Bedford Road Recreation Ground from 7pm to 8pm and the Saturday sides will commence training every Wednesday from July 5th at 7pm and every Sunday at 10.30am.”

However, they are delighted to announce that they will be hosting a match against a side from AFC Rushden and Diamonds XI at Bedford Road Recreation Ground on Friday 11th August with a 6.30pm kick-off.
