Match Report

Sandy arrived at Bromham Village Hall aiming to get their first win in the league after a dissapointing draw against Brickhill Tigers last week. Following on from Wednesday nights cup game Sandy started the game with a high tempo and intensity and immediately pushed Bromham back, earning themselves a corner on the right hand side. Tommy McGhee whipped the ball in with his trusted left foot to the near post where Beally was there to head it home past the goalkeeper for his second goal in a row, the perfect start. It didn't take long for Sandy to double their lead either, as Sandy attacked with the ball down the left the ball made its way to Liam who cleverly played the ball over to the far post where Tom Burton had gotten in front of the Bromham fullback to tap home from a few yards out. This was Burtons last contribution at right wing as Gilly had to leave the field due to his weak hamstrings, and so Jennings was pinned back from his maurauding runs from right back to instead fill in at centre back alongside Beally, and Burgess came on at right wing pushing Burton back to right back. The next highlight was a lovely headed backpass to Pally as Beally headed the ball perfectly against Jennings face and back to Pally, this was probably Bromhams only chance to get in behind the Sandy defence but luckily for Sandy it went straight to Pally who was able to get the game flowing straight away as he threw the ball out to Burton. Sandy continued to dominate Bromham and it was only a matter of time before they scored the third goal, Ryan Gregory had a couple of efforts and Juicy was holding up the ball well and teasing the defenders, Burton still managed to get another shot at goal as he ran in from deep to collect Juicys pass on the edge of the area but the keeper saved well and it went out for another corner. The third goal did finally come as McGhee looped the ball up into the air, Adam ran after it and from the right hand side of the 6 yard box managed to pump it back into orbit and into the centre of the goal, the Bromham keeper and centre back failed to outjump Juicy as he simply wanted it more and so he got his head to it first to guide it over the line, 3-0 at half time.

It was a pleasing performance but you have to win both halves and Sandy went out hoping for much of the same in the second half. Bromham did improve and managed to get some football played on the edge of Sandys box, but they failed to really test Pally in goal. Sandy needed to improve if they were going to increase their lead and for the first 25 minutes it looked like it may stay at 3-0 as they failed to keep up the same intensity that they had from the first half. However things did slowly get going again as Bromham tired and the Bromham keeper gave the ball away needlessly from a couple of goalkicks and this put Bromham out of shape on a couple of occassions. With 5 players missing Sandy didn't have any options to freshen things up, however they started to look likely to score and it was Juicy who got the momentum going again as he collected a lovely square ball from Liam, pushed it right to take it away from the defender and placed the ball in the bottom right of the net, 4-0. This really ended the contest as far as the home side were concerned as any hope of getting anything from the game faded. Sandy were getting more and more space to move and run into and they added more numbers towards the stats especially the shots taken and the corners tally. The higlight of the second half was when Ryan Burgess tried to beat his man about 6 times before he was able to get a cross in, but it was Burgess himself who got the 5th goal as the ball got shifted left to right from Gregory to Juicy, then to McGhee, then finally to Burgess and he had so much time he was able to take a touch towards goal and pick his spot and he blasted it past the keeper, final score 5-0. It was a good game from Sandys point of view and it will give them confidence as they were able to add significantly to their goal difference, get a clean sheet and move up to 3rd in the league after 2 games.

Chaos ensued that night as half the first team went out on the town for the first time this Season, dissapointingly the Reserves didn't come out despite winning 9-0 in their first league game, maybe they will when they win with double figures!
