Match Report

Cambridge AFC were next on the list as Sandy tried to look for their first win of the competition. Mark Pallister had to disappear to go and play cricket so Matt Balls made his much anticipated debut for Sandy in between the sticks.

Again the opposition were dominated, but Sandy were unable to find the goalscoring opportunity that would give them the lead. Chris Nicholls and Dan Stafford fired shots over the bar from range and JJ had a header saved from a Matt Evans long throw.

Sandy had a succession of corners and free kicks as well, but the AFC Cambridge keeper came and caught almost everything demonstrating composure and good handling skills although for the most part he claimed most of the crosses unchallenged.

Matt Balls then made a good low save down to his right to steer a shot wide and give him some confidence for the furture games. However with the clock ticking down again, another dubious linesman decision cost Sandy as three people appeared to be offside, but his flag didn't go up and the tall AFC Cambridge forward could slide the ball home past Balls to win the game 1-0 for the opponents. This left Sandy with a mountain to climb if they were to reach the knockout stages.

Man of the Match: Oli Banfield
