Match Report

Sandy started the competition against tough opposition and for the most part held their own. In their first eleven a side game since the end of last season Chris Nicholls and Ryan Gregory were handed debuts and Matt Gedney started at right back on return from his knee injury.

Stevie Thomas hit the bar with a wonder shot early in the game as he caught Phil Beall by surprise to steal a yard and shoot. Pally was routed to the spot and was relieved to see the ball crash back off the bar.

Sandy however took the lead from a Ryan Gregory corner as he floated the ball to the back post, Mark Jennings headed the ball back across goal and Phil Beall popped up to stab the ball home. It was almost two nil shortly after as Chris Nicholls broke free down the left and his near post cross found Dan Stafford at the front post, but his flicked header over spanner was cleared off the line.

Constant and Co came more into the game and pressured Sandy, but it was a dodgy offside call that let them back in the game as their right winger who was clearly offside recieved the ball and squared easily for the forward to tuck the ball home. Sandy were now coming under more pressure and with two minutes to go and clever piece of football opened Sandy down their right flank and saw the constant player finish with a deft touch past Pally.

It was a tough result to open the competition with but gave Sandy much promise for the rest of the match.

Man of the Match: Phil Beall.
