Match Report

Whilst Barry was away in Italy Sandy were hoping to take all 3 points in this top of the table clash. Having beaten Goldington in a friendly in pre-season Sandy were confident of a result but knew it would not be easy. Chances flew both ways pretty quickly, Sandys chances fell to Liam and Johnny in the first half but neither were able to put the ball in the back of the net, it was in fact Goldington who made the first impression on the game as Sheldon beat 2 players down Sandys left and crossed the ball in, Jennings was there to clear but it bobbled and he didn't get much of a connection on the ball and it went to the far post for Chris Huckle to tap in to make it 1-0. Then as if it was an action replay Goldington countered a Sandy attack to score again, the ball whipped in from Sandys left and this went straight to Chris Huckle for another simple tap in.

At half time Sandy knew it wasn't quite over as they were creating chances just as Goldington were, they just needed to put them away. However the Goldington winger dribbled the ball much further than he should of been allowed to and he crossed for Chris Huckle, Jennings tried to block it but the ball fell kindly after this challenge straight to his feet and he placed the ball straight into the bottom left corner giving Pally no chance. 3-0, and it was now a huge task for Sandy to get anything from the game. Chances were created for Sandy and they were applying a lot of pressure onto Goldington but they could never quite get the ball in the back of the net, the 2 key chances being when Liam had an open goal after the ball fell kindly off the Goldington defenders, but he put it wide. Beally made a decent run down the left on the counter and played the ball with his left foot over to the opposite flank to Pete Rogan who was taken out by the goalkeeper and Sandy had a penalty, unfortunately Beally can't take penaltys and he missed.

The game really was more even than the scoreline suggested, especially in terms of chances, Sandy need to learn from this defeat and that they need to finish their chances. If they did, then they may have had a share of the points. Sandy must move on though and look to go unbeaten again so that they can push towards the top of the table again.
