Match Report

The reserves faced a tough task today against Bedford Panthers who are top of the league and have won every game so far this season. Sandy were back to normal with 14 players in the squad and used the 4-2-3-1 formation once again.

The game kicked off and Sandy started very brightly and the first chance fell to Jonnie when Dora intercepted a pass, ran with the ball and played Jonnie through on goal. Jonnie got his shot on target but the keeper made a great save even though the ref awarded a goal kick. Both teams were battling for possession with C.Gregory and Barker doing well in the middle winning the ball and passing it out to both wings. But it was Bedford who took the lead with their instrumental number 10 rounding Phil and placing the ball in the net. Shortly after the restart Bedford went towards goal again and they got a shot off but R.Gregory sprinted back to clear the ball off the line. Some good link up play between Dennis and Baines made some attacks down the right and Hales,Barker,Dora and Jonnie all linked up too but it finished 1-0 at half time.

Sandy made a sub at half time as Rogan had to be elsewhere so Webby replaced him and slotted into CDM and Barker dropped into CB. Sandy attacked as the half started but Bedford found some rhythm and attacked from all directions. As R.Gregory was keeping the right side quiet, Bedford were counter attacking down our left and through the middle as they won a corner. The corner was partially cleared as Bedford's right back went passed 3 of our players via some lucky deflections and slotted home. But the right back then showed his dirty side as a ball was cleared Dora chased after the ball but the right back tripped him and he was running past receiving a yellow card. Gippo came on to replace Hales at left back. Sandy found some momentum and got some attacks going with Baines,Dennis and Jonnie all involved but no goal came. Phil sustained an injury and Barker volunteered to go in goal. Stratton came on at right back and R.Gregory slotted in at CB. Bedford got a third goal as they counter attacked up the pitch quickly to slot home. Some thought Webby should've received a free kick before the goal but the ref chose to play on. The game finished 3-0 to Bedford but the result didn't tell the full story as Sandy took a lot of positives from this game.
