Match Report

Sandy Reserves visited Caldecote A looking to get their season kick started. After a turbulent week for the team over the uncertainty of Manager Tony Gregory's future, Colin Osborne would lead the team for the afternoon with Tony just as a spectator.

Tony did however pick the team and advise on substitutions during the afternoon, which stoked the fire and thankfully he has decided that he is able to and would like to continue as the teams manager.

Sandy started the game well and were on the pace early, pushing forward and keeping the opposition under pressure. This fast start earned it's reward as it resulted in the opening goal, for Jonny Stratford who added to his seasons tally by pushing it in at a stretch passed the Caldecote keeper.

Despite the good start from the visitors it was a breakdown of communication on the backline and some goalkeepererrors soon found Caldecote leveling the score and beginning to dominate the contest. Caldecote switched their early formation and were now playing with three forward players all who had good pace and they were leaving the pushed up Sandy back line on many occasions to sweep in the goals.

Extreme efforts by John Sheppard as the attacking forwards tried to go through the left side without success as he snuffed out every attack. Sheppard used his experience to hold the play back and regularly cleared the play up the line finding Hoole and Stratton who were trying to give Sandy something to build on.

Depsite the defensive set backs Sandy were still a strong attacking force and their continued effort found Sandy with a corner. Ryan Gregory pushed John Sheppard up into the box as the corner was taken, and his efforts of the day were rewarded as he found the back of the net with a quality finish. A third goal was added in the second half by Matt Baines, but there was little that the visitors could do to affect the scoreline further.

Strong performances throughout the match from Ryan Gregory, John Sheppard and Jonny Stratford whilst the rest of the team seemed to struggle to get going. Ryan Gregory was nominated player of the match by Colin, Hales and Tony for his calm and professional attitude throughout the game.

The squad will be hoping to register their first points of the season when the entertain Shefford and Campton A on Saturday. Final score 3-7
