Match Report

2010 has not started very well for Sandy Reserves. The side had another weekend of disappointment loosing to another struggling side placed 3rd from bottom.

Before the game had started, more changes had to be made again due to availability of players. Liam Evans (Captain) and Adam Hales had work commitments, Steve Jakes was absent skiing and Martin Cull let the team down by just not turning up again. Dean Hill has also left the football club cue to being too tired. Matt Gednay was captain for the day.

Graham Ward and David Lloyd decided to make a couple of changes again to the team - they played a 4-3-3 formation. This was to try and enable Dean Hains to get forward and support the front line.

The idea worked for a small period of the game until Caldecote scored the first goal. The second goal was due to ball watching and not picking up players. This had been a problem that has haunted Sandy in many fixtures so far this season. Following this the midfield was changed to allow Dean Hains to sit back in the middle of the park with Marcus Tait.

Other than conceeding these two goals the first half performance was fairly good and Sandy created a number of chances. After the changes the team worked harder and decided to chase and get 'stuck in' causing Caldecote problems. Sandy played some good football in stages, but it was the final ball that let them down as the crosses and chances created were blocked out by the tall Caldecote defence. Half Time 0 - 2

Manager Graham Ward gave a rousing team talk at the half, encouraging the team and reminding them that the only thing wrong was the score and that if they continued to play good football they could get back into the game.

The second half started much better for Sandy and within three minutes they had pulled a goal back. Leon Bryan latched onto a long ball out of defence. He beat the Caldecote defenders to the ball and slotted the ball into the net from 35 yards. The Caldecote keeper could only just get his hand to the ball. The goal seemed to rouse Sandy and they then gave Caldecote further scares with good work coming from the midfield and forward line. Marcus Tait was substituted after 15 minutes of the second half with Brad Dennis replacing him. The plan was to allow Dennis to link with Dean Hains and run at the defence to cause them problems.

Agaian it worked well to start with, but a lapse in concentration allowed Caldecote to score third goal. Sandy however kept pushin and their efforts resulted in Dean Hains adding a second goal as he shot from 20 yards into the top left corner. Unfortunately is was too little too late as Sandy couldn't find an equaliser. Full Time 2 - 3.

Manager Graham Ward was pleased with Adam Jones effort and rewarded him with the Man of the Match award.

Brad Dennis was awarded the can of coke as he managed to hit a 30 yard cross that went backwards right to the halfway line from a good attacking position.
