Match Report

Sandy took on Clifton Reserves at home lookin to get 3 points to fire them up the table and get away from the bottom half. Conditions weren't great and the pitch was very wet and was tearing up easily.

The game kicked off and Clifton had the better possession in the opening periods of the game as their strikers were looking very dangerous but our defence were doing well clearing the ball and puting in challenges. But Sandy got an early breakthrough when Lucas  played Jonnie in who shot first time and made it 1-0. Sandy started to have more of the ball and there was some good play down both wings and through the middle. But Clifton drew level when a free kick was given away, the ball was crossed into the box and headed in. Soon after Clifton made it 2-1 when the striker cut inside and shot at the near post. Sandy tried to get going again before half time but couldn't make any decent chances.

The second half commenced and Sandy came out looking a lot more dangerous as Jonnie and Gregory started testing the 'keeper. Sandy drew level through Jonnie who finished comfortably past the 'keeper. This made the game end to end as both teams were going for the win. Jonnie and Dora were linking up well and Lucas was puting in some great crosses. Webby and Baines were making some great passes through but Sandy just couldn't get that goal. Phil made a great save when the Clifton striker got one-on0one with him but Phil tipped it round the post. A sub was made Webby off for Brown who went to left back, pushing Stratton to the wing, Gregory into centre-mid and Dora went up front. The tactical change seemed to make a difference as Dora and Jonnie both had chances but couldn't convert. But right at the end Clifton had time for one last chance and made it count making it 3-2 and the final whistle sounded.

Sandy deserved more from this game, but the difference between both teams was taking their chances. Phil got man of the match who had a great game in goal.
