Match Report

Sandy knew that today it would be a tough task to progress through to the next round as during the week Dinamo Flitwicks 1st Team had folded leaving just the reserves to compete as Dinamo Flitwick. However this meant that the reserves were bolstered by several regular division 3 players and Sandy Reserves had a very young and inexperienced side.

On arrival at the venue, Tony remembered from running the u14, u15 and u16 youth teams that this pitch was very small for them let alone a senior team and knew that it was going to be a tough battle.

Sandy were under strong attack from the start as the home side established themselves into the contest. The back 4 of Sheppard, Rogan, Flynn and Barham had a difficult time keeping the attackers away from our goal, and some early errors allowed Flitwick to take the lead.

Sandy were struggling to come to terms with the pitch and  positive clearances from midfield and the wing play were few and far between as the ball seemed to be stuck to the players shins as it bobbled on the poor surface.

Flitwick who were playing in orange crowded the ball and players each time we made any advances toward their goal, then an out of position keeper led to the next goal against us, thus leaving the field with low heads.

Baines was brought onto the field at half time as a holding midfielder, which helped Sandy's strength in front of the back line. Barham was changed for Dennis as we moved Chris onto the left wing, putting Roberts up front with Johnny, this change had the wrong effect as Roberts was found to be chasing every ball without making a challenge, Roberts was moved out to the wing and Chris back on the front line.

Unfortunately Sandy's keeper then made another error as a high ball heading toward our goal was caught by Balls and then dropped as the attacker clashed with Balls, the ball hit Ball's hip and headed into our goal, just to sum up Sandy's luck.

The challenging efforts found during the game were un-rewarded toward Sandy, the game ended with Sandy being out of the cup and a 4-0 defeat.

Player of the match was awarded to match captain Dennis, for his positive attitude toward the team under such harsh conditions.

Not the best performance from the team, but we will take this game as a wake-up call.
