Match Report

New reserve team manager Tony Gregory took chanrge of his first Pre Season game at Home to Dunton A, and it gave him a real good chance to experience managing in senior football as well as giving him the chance to run his eye over how the new squad would cope in an 11-a-side game. Darren Gipson and Matt Gedney provided positive experience and support to the younger memebrs of the team and slotted in nicely for 90 minutes.

Chris Gregory and Ryan Gregory also having trained with the 1st team squad for most of pre season  brought some of that influence into the contest alongside other players making their debuts such as Harry Barham, and Jake Brown. Jonny Stratford also made his first start for Sandy FC. Nathan Morris last years top scorer offered to go in goal as regular resreve team keeper Matt Balls was away sunning himself on the continent. Matt Baines and Brad Dennis, along with Reece Stratton and Adam Jakes also returned from last years reserves to bolster a squads that looks full of promise.

A great deal of effort, team work and support was give by all players both on and off the pitch, there were a few shoots blasted over the bar, but many attempts were seen on Dunton’s goal throughout the match.

Harry Barham took an early knock to his ankle, which took him out of the game and he was replaced by Scott Dougal.

During the contest Tony made a few tactical switches, moving the frustrated but talented Ryan Gregory up front alongside Jonny Stratford and the partnership between these two worked very well. Chris Gregory also made an outstanding contribution on the right falnk, passing and moving well and creating several shooting opportunities for himself. All in all though it was lapses in concentration that are to be expected in the first game of the new season that cost the home side. Nathan Morris could do little about the goals, but however the score was kept to 1-0 at half time.

Dunton did score again in the second half, but a  short positive team chat at half time bought the focus back to the game in hand with confidence and willingness to work hard. Sandy gave a good account of themselves and with a bit of luck they could well have scored a goal or two. Dunton had a large squad and were able to rotate players to stay fresh.

As a whole Tony was very pleased with all efforts, is sure that he will see more improvement in the future games, he stated that Fitness, short passing and support play would be his focus in the next weeks.

Final score 0-2
