Match Report

A local derby for Sandy today as they take on Dunton Reserves. The lads were looking to build on the win against Bedford Panthers and revenge for the loss versus Dunton at the start of the season. New signing Lucas slotted in at centre back with Stratton coming in at right back, otherwise the rest of the line-up was unchanged.

The game kicked off and the play was end to end. Dunton’s front 3 were causing problems but so were Sandy’s attackers too. The ref was stopping the game a lot giving some harsh free kicks. He then booked Stratton harshly for a slide tackle which was a foul but not a booking. Sandy then took the lead when Gregory ran down the line and pulled the ball back for Jonnie who easily slotted home. Challenges were flying in resulting in two Dunton players going in the book too but the ref was very inconsistent with his decisions. Just before half time Dunton were awarded a free kick which was crossed in and headed into the back of net making it 1-1.

About 30 seconds into the second half the ref then put Baines in the book very harshly again after he tripped the opposing player unintentionally. Our defence were standing strong against any attacks with the midfield four even helping out at the back. Sandy then got a second goal when Dennis put in a corner which was met by the head of Rogan making it 2-1. Sandy the made a sub with Webby making way for Gippo who went into centre back, Dennis into centre-mid and Lucas pushed up on to the right wing. Gregory was constantly involved in the play which did result in him receiving man of the match rightfully but he was subbed off for Harry who went on at left-mid and Dora joined Jonnie up front. Dora, Jonnie, Baines and Lucas were all linking and Sandy got a third when Jonnie lifted a bouncing ball into the back of the net despite being fouled which gave the Dunton ‘keeper a yellow card. Dora then won Sandy a penalty when he got in the box but as he went to shoot he was pulled back. Jonnie stepped up and completed his hatrick. A red card was produced for the Dunton left back when he took Lucas down with a challenge that had his studs showing. The game finished 4-1 and Sandy have a lot of momentum within the team with two wins in a row.
