Match Report

Sandy Reserves kicked off their season against local rivals Dunton with a day that went anything but smoothly. Manager Graham Ward had six players unavailable for the fixture due to other commitments including captain Shane Pope (Holiday) and Vice Captain Liam Evans (injury), and to make matters worse they suffered the same fate as the first team last week when they had no referee for the fixture. This meant that not only did manager Graham Ward have to reshuffle his side due to the absentee's, but he also had to play referee for the afternoon.

Matt Baines was skipper for the day in place of Pope, and he gave a good account of himself at the heart of the defence. Jamie Bellingham had an outstanding game at the back and was rightly given the man of the match award. These two players were part of an excellent back four that was full of running against a very mobile Dunton forward line.

Despite a good first half, two sloppy mistakes by the Sandy midfield put the defence under an immense amount of pressure which resulted in Dunton scoring their goals. Phil Cooper in the Sandy goal had no chance of stopping either of the efforts from the Dunton forwards. Half time 2 - 0

Sandy made changes at half time and they managed to then take the game to Dunton. Charlie Seward made an immediate impression in the heart of midfield as soon as he came on, making consistantly strong tackles and muscling in to the Dunton midfield. He also played some lovely through balls to both Leon Bryan and Brad Dennis.

Dunton's third goal came half way through the second half to kill off the game. They broke away after a good Sandy attack and scored from an acute angle from just inside the six yard box.

Final Score 0 - 3.
