Match Report

Sandy FC Reserves were looking forward to the beginning of the season and get off to a good start. Graham Ward continuing as Manager (without the assistance from last year’s partnership Dave Lloyd) was feeling very optimistic about the season ahead.

The season started on a Bank Holiday weekend and availability of players and a referee was a problem.A referee was found at the last minute and players were mustered up from here and everywhere.

With all the anticipation of starting the season – the final response was very poor from all Sandy players across the Bedford Road park. Goldington FC were a very ordinary side and showed no real threat. However, the Team were very lapse at the beginning of the game and found themselves 2-0 down within the first 20 minutes. The home side tried to pick themselves up and start to play easy football – but it wasn’t working.

The problems started with Marcus Tait having to come off due to a knee injury that was sustained during the pre season friendlies. The side had to be reshuffled. Reece Pope slotted into central defence with Adam Jones moving into central midfield. The 4-3-2-1 formation wasn’t gelling together at all, with everybody looking out of favour.

The second half started a little better, with the odd attack coming through the centre of midfield. Unfortunately, there was no final substance of a shot on goal. Due to the lack of substitutes available, GW couldn’t bring any fresh legs or ideas to the game. Goldington FC eventually broke away and scored a final third goal which put a right damper of this Bank Holiday weekend.

The effort from Matt Gedney and Man of the Match Dan Grindstead was not unnoticed.
