Match Report

Sandy Reserves recorded their second 5-0 win a row in this evening clash against second from bottom Kempston Athletic and it could of been by a far bigger margain.

Ian Hammett took charge of the team for the opening 20 minutes or so as Reserve Team Manager Graham Ward was travelling back from Exeter. With a strong side Sandy were keen to get the win that would take them up to ninth in the table a season high. They started the game very well passing the ball wide and getting Reece Stratton heavily involved down the left hand side.

The early stages were dominated by the home side and they quickly took the lead. Nathan Morris swung a corner in left footed from the right hand side and Stratton met the ball at the near post to head home. Sandy sensing that there would be more goals were immediately on the front foot, pushing for that next goal and they should have had a penalty shortly after as Startton beat three players and into the box to be hauled down only for the ref to wave play on. Phil Beall then went on one his typical runs from centre back with some audacious skill and then played a lovely reverse pass into the path of Morris, the keeper stood up big and saved well tho to keep the score one nil.

Jay Pateman and Nathan Morris are in a personal duel for top scorer honours and Pateman should of added to his tally, bu he couldn't connect with the ball as it flashed across an open goal from an Adam Jakes cross. However Pateman soon made amends as Morris slipped him through and he finished well with his left foot into the bottom corner to make it 2-0.

The defence had hardly anything to do in the opening twenty minutes as Grinny and Beally headed everything away and Liam Evans and Reece Pope were solid at full backs. Phil cooper was a virtual spectator throughout.

Manager Graham Ward then arived to take charge of the team and oversee the rest of the win. Natahn Morris finally added to his tally with two goals and the ever committed Anthony Roberts got a good runout and even scored his first goal of the season. He did also miss a penalty, blazing it over the bar with both these chances apparently set up by Phil Beall although nly he can confirm this.

Sandy dominated the contest and cantered to a 5-0 win. They will hope to make it 3 wins in a row this Saturday in their final league game of the season against Bedford Park Rangers and another 5-0 win would do very nicely!
