Match Report

On a terrible afternooon weather wise, an excellent comeback in the last twenty minutes earned the reserve side a much deserved point against a strong Lidlington side.

For much of the first half Sandy had their backs against the wall, and although they kept the visitors at bay for long periods they were 1 - 0 down after 20 minutes due to a lack of understanding in the Sandy defence allowing a Lidlington forward to score in the far corner past Phil Cooper.

During the second half Lidlington managed to move out to a three goal lead when they managed to score against the run of play and out of nothing. Despite this setback, Sandy were playing some good football but manager Graham Ward was forced into some changes as both Kevin Fage and Dean Hains had to be replaced after picking up injuries. Matt Baines slotted into the centre of defence with 35 minutes to go and Graham Ward came into centre midfield with twenty minutes left. These changes seemed to lift Sandy and they started their fightback.

Manager Graham Ward was managing to disrupt Lidlingtons flow in midfield which allowed Sandy to get a foothold in the game. Straight form the kick off after Lidlington had scored tehir third goal Leon Bryan struck the ball straight from the kick off and into the top right hand corner. Good work then in the 70th minute down the right hand side allowed Leon Bryan to score his second of the afternoon with an excellent lob over a mediocre goalkeeper to bring the score back to 3 - 2. Once again though against the run of play Lidlington scored to take the score back to 4 - 2. The ball was crossed in from the right and the lidlington forward headed the ball over the stranded Phil Cooper.

Five minutes later and Sandy were back in the game once again when Graham Ward took a free kick just inside the lidlington half. The free kick was floated into the box and it ended up in the top corner of the goal after deflecting off a lidlington defender. Sandy were not finished, and Graham Ward picked up a booking for his efforts as he looked to drive the team on, pushing and hustling.

In the 89th minute the comeback was complete when the ball fell to Martin Cull, who layed the ball into the path of Marcus Tait, and man of the match Tait fired the ball into the far right corner of the goal. Sandy were jubilant and Lidlington were nearly crying.... great result. Final score 4 - 4.
