Match Report

Sandy went into the game with confidence following their first pre season win on Tuesday against Shefford Town and Campton Reserves, but Marabese were to prove to be just a little bit too strong for the home side.

From the start Sandy knew that they would be made to work hard by the visitors who enjoyed playing the ball around and threading through balls to their quick forwards. However for the first 10 minutes Sandy did a good job of holding a high line and catching them offside. Marabese Striker Josh Pierre St Clair scored with a free kick from the right hand dge of the box after 15 minutes, leaving debut keeper Nathan Hutchinson with little chance. This goal took the wind out of the home sides sales and shortly after it was two, as Denver Donaldson latched onto a long ball to steer the ball home.

Missing the injured AJ, Captain Matt Gedney worked hard to keep the back line organised and was Sandy's stand out perfomer in the first half. Sandy offered little goal threat, but did play some nice football at times as they switched play and moved the ball quickly. However Marabese made it three before half time when a James Tizzard cross was tapped in by Pierre St Clair.

The second half proved to be a much more even affair as Sandy restricted their opposition to just one more goal as Pierre St Clair completed his hat trick.

It was a tough game for the reserves against opposition from two leagues higher, but manager Graham Ward will have been happy with the workout that his players got, as well as the improved second half performance.
