Match Report

Sandy FC faced Potton Town in a tough local derby at Sunderland Road Recreation Ground.Graham Ward was optimistic with a large 18 man squad to choose from. On paper, the Team looked strong and the attitude in the changing room from all of the players was good. Several players were unable to get a shirt.

The game kicked off and both teams looked short of confidence. The teams were unable to put their foot on the ball and create any clear football chances. Sandy didn’t settle, play simple football and lacked confidence.

Potton looked the better side in patches, creating chances down the right hand side. The Sandy midfield struggled in marking the midfield and at some stages was chasing shadows.

There were too many chances lost with numerous “free” headers and loose balls being missed.

The Sandy defenders started to work overtime again with good work from Matt Gedney and Dan Grinstead.

Potton Town received a free kick in the 25th minute outside the right corner of the 18 yard area. Striker Chris Cooper took the free kick from 20 yards which beat his brother Phil into the top right corner.1-0.

At half time - Graham Ward gave the team a good talking too, about working for each other, composure and confidence on the ball. GW tried to raise the moral and encourage a better 2nd half.

Changes were made - Jay Pateman was put on for Tom Fulbrook.

The second half was much the same. Jay Pateman made some effort and showed some graft and ability to work the ball. Further substitutions included Marcus Tait replacing Matt Baines (50th minute) and Matt Flynn replacing Dan Hoole (55th minute).

Potton Town broke away in the 75th minute and scored a sloppy goal.

The game was an appalling result in a poor local derby football match.
