Match Report

The clash of the bottom 2 sides in Division 3 was full of incident and frustration.

More changes had to be made again due to availability of players. Graham Ward was without the assistance of Dave Lloyd and several players through work commitment, holiday and not wanting to play due to being substitute.Matt Gedney was captain for the day and led with determination. There was no official referee but the Riseley assistant manager played a good game.

Graham Ward played a 3-4-3 formation that worked very well. Sandy FC played very well in the first half holding much of the possession. Marcus Tait dominated the centre of midfield for periods of time. Goal chances were not taken allowing Riseley to score 2 goals from nothing before half time. Both goals came down the left hand side from their left wing / forward Brown. Riseley’s first goal was cancelled out by Danny Hoole who swept in a cross shot from 25 yards in the far left hand corner of the goal. 1-2 half time.

The second half talk with the Team encouraged the Team to keep working and pushing forward. Jamie Bellingham was taken off at half time due to sickness and alcohol poisoning. Matt Baines came in at the back [centre] and allowed Matt Gedney to cover.Brad Smith slotted into the forward line up with Kev Fage and Leon Bryan. The Team pushed forward and Dan Hoole forced a penalty. Hoole took the penalty to make it 2-2.

Sandy kept pushing and their reward was to go 3-2 up with a goal from Dean Hains. It was a result of hard work from the Team. The Team started to believe in themselves.

Unfortunately Sandy sat back and allowed Riseley to move forward again with Brown pulling the strings. An incident in the left corner of the 18 yard area allowed Brown to waltz through 3 players on the edge of the area. This allowed him to chip Phil Cooper to make it 3-3.

The away Team lost momentum and allowed Riseley to take the game over scoring 2 more goals in the last 10 minutes. Poor defending, ball watching, discipline and experience prevented Sandy taking all 3 points.

Positive - Good defensive work again from Adam Jones [AJ].

The "Can of Coke" went to Matt Flynn trying to clear a ball out which ended up going across the face of goal and falling into the path of an opposing player.
