Match Report
Sandy FC Reserves started the game brightly with 5 packed in midfield. The Sandy defence and midfield muscled and shut down the Stewartby Village side to prevent any chances being created at the early stages.
Sandy Reserves looked quite comfortable on the ball and they started to play some good football at the beginning of the game, with some good possession within midfield.
There were very few chances produced within the 1st half.
However, some sloppy defending down the right hand side gave Stewartby Village a bit of confidence and they scored a goal that was fortunately ruled off side. The standard of football was below par and Sandy got sucked into not taking advantage of a poor home side.
Ultimately, this gave Stewartby the initiative and took the lead from a move down the left hand side.
The midfield was struggling to gel and several changes were made in the 2nd half. Marcus Tait came on for below par Dean Hill, Matt Flynn on for Tom Fulbrook. 10 minutes later Dan Grinstead came on for Reece Pope. In the 60th minute, a move from the right hand side of midfield was laid on to Brad Dennis. Dennis made forward progress and scored from 20 yards. Good goal. 1-1.
However, Stewartby were allowed to take control of the game in the latter stages of the game. Their persistence allowed them to score a second goal – chipping the ball over Phil Cooper.
The referee struggled to keep up with play all day (not coming out of the centre circle). This frustrated the Sandy Team who should have had a clear penalty in the 80th minute.
This was a very disappointing day which should have been an easy result for Sandy FC.
