Match Report

Sandy Reserves wanted to give a much better account of themselves after a disappointing result last time out against Queens Park Crescents. There was an excellent response from the team after Manager Graham Ward's pre game chat and Sandy started the game with confidence as they played some lovely football particularly out of defence.

Motm Adam Jones worked hard throughout the match alongside Adam Hales, Matt Gedney and the ever reliable Jamie Bellingham. During the first half Sandy took the game to Stopsley and made the team that is flying high in the division look very ordinary at times.

A goal from Kevin Fage was no more than the home side deserved to give them a 1-0 lead, but it was cancelled out by an effort from the Stopsley Centre forward. However within two minutes of that equaliser and Sandy were back in front as Dean Hains scored a great goal, he ran unchecked through the middle of the Stospley team and lashed an effort past the keeper and into the back of the net to give Sandy a 2-1 lead at half time.

The second half again started well for Sandy as they began by playing some good football. Disappointingly though Stopsley's number 7 Jack O'shea scored straight from a corner to level the contest at 2 - 2.

The score stayed like that until the last five minutes when O'Shea popped up again to score from 25 yards out with an effort that left Phil Cooper no chance as it flew into the top corner. This goal robbed Sandy of a much deserved point at the very least.

Manager Graham Ward felt that there had been a great effort from the whole team, and although they had nothing to show for it, he felt that there were many positives to take into next weeks Watson Shield game against Clifton Reserves.
