Match Report

Sandy Reserves suffered another weekend of disappointment loosing to a very, very ordinary side. After the previous weekends performance against Renhold, Manager Graham Ward travelled to Westoning with high hopes for his side, but it turned out to be a frustrating day in rain and wind.

Once again Graham Ward was forced into changes as Captain Liam Evans had work commitments and Reece Pope failed to turn up at the arranged meeting time.

Adam Hales was named captain for the day in the absence of Evans.

Manager Ward and his assistant Dave Lloyd had also decided to make a couple of tactical changes to the team. They wanted Dean Hill to sit in the middle of the park and create chances, which would in turn enable the influential Adam Jones (AJ) to get forward and support the strikers. The idea in theory looked sound, but unfortunately did not work on the pitch.

Sandy were 1 - 0 down after 25 minutes, as some sloppy marking in midfield and defence allowed Westoning to open the scoring. Despite last weeks good performance the team appeared to lack confidence, and hence allowed Westoning to attack and create far more chances than the visitors. Noticing that his team were struggling, Ward made some tactical adjustments before half time. He switched AJ out to the left wing and moved Dean Hains into the middle of the park. Following the changes the team made some positive responses and ensured they finished the first half strongly. Half Time 0 - 1

These changes also ensured that Sandy started the second half with greater impetous. 20 minutes into the second half Sandy were level as Danny Hoole crossed the ball into the box from the right, the loose ball was picked up on the left and driven into the six yard box where a Westoning defender turned it into his own net.

The goal seemed to galvanise Sandy, and they pressed forward looking to add to their tally. Good work led to efforts on goal from Dean Hains and Leon Bryan (MOTM), but Sandy couldn't find that elusive second goal. Before the afternoon all went wrong for Sandy two more good chances went begging which should have made it 1 - 3 to the visitors.

Unfortunately as the game was drawing to an end Westoning came forward and some more sloppy defending from midfield and defence which had cost Sandy earlier in the game returned to haunt them as Westoning took there chances and scored 2 more goals.

In an effort to save the game Manager Ward took off Matt Baines and AJ and pushed Dean Hains up front whilst playing three at the back. The three forward's however were given little service to try and pull any consolation goal back. Full Time 3 - 1

Depsite the the loss, manager Ward felt that there had been good work and effort from Adam Hales, Jamie Bellingham, Dean Hains and MOTM Leon Bryan.

The 'can of coke' award went to Dean Hains for a 30 yard shot that nearly went off for a throw in, rather than troubling the Westoning Keeper.
