Match Report

Sandy travelled to Wilstead to take on wilhamstead Reserves in the second round of the Watson shield after beating BPR 4-3 in the last round. Wilstead were in division 3 but Sandy knew they could get a result after beating division 3 opposition in the last round.

Sandy got off to the better start as Dora and Lucas were beating them down the wings every time and looking for Gregory and Jonnie in the box. Sandy were looking very dangerous from corners and the first goal of the game came when Dora put a corner in frrom the left, the keeper flapped at it but the ball fell to Rogan who tapped the ball in. This opened up the game and Wilstead replied soon after when a quick free kick was played over the top and the striker took the ball down and finished. Sandy were still making chances when Barker had two long range efforts one wide and one went over. Wilstead took the lead when the striker shot and the ball unfortunately slipped under Phil's arm and it was 2-1 at half time.

Wilstead started a lot better in the second half and scored two quick goals within 10 minutes and it was 4-1 and Sandy had a lot of work to do. Sandy won a free kick and Webby stepped up curling the ball towards the top corner but the keeper made a great save to tip around the post. From the resulting corner which Dora took from the right, picked out Rogan again who hit a great volley from an awkward height to make it 4-2. Soon after it was 4-3 when Webby put in a great cross on to Jonnie's head and the game was all to play for again. Subs were made when Stratton replace Shep at right back and Matty came on for Hales and went in at centre mid, pushing Barker out wide and Dora went to left back. Another great chance fell to Gregory inside the box but he placed it the wrong side of the post. But near the end Wilstead got a 5th goal and making sure they progressed through.

5-3 the final score but Sandy can walk away with their heads held high as some of the football they played was quality, proving they can perform against higher ranked teams. Man of the match went to Webby for his quality distribution and an all round great performance.
