Manager Lawson new his depleted squad bolstered by 4 members of the successful under 19 side had a great chance to get to the quarter-final draw against a side in the north region 1st division.

The two teams took to the park Buchanhaven in all maroon and the visitors Forfar west end in yellow tops black shorts and yellow socks in dreadful conditions which would make for a very difficult afternoon.

 

The match gets underway and the first exchanges between the sides were even with the first chance falling to the visitors on eight minutes when the ball found HART in the box and the keeper could only parry his shot into the path of the onrushing Njie who could not miss must to the astonishment of the travelling support he hit the post.

On ten minutes things got harder for the visitors when the injured Mcllrevey was replaced by Davidson for his senior debut.

The first half continued with both sides struggling with the conditions, another chance falling to CLARK after 22 minutes from a CRUICKSHANK cross. The first half comes to an end and manager Lawson can get the troops into the warmth of the dressing room.

The second half began with the conditions getting worse and both teams continuing in the same mould as the first half. The referee then started to become the centre of attention delivering more cards than a postie on valentines day.

Disaster struck in the 70th minute when following a THAIN mistake the home side midfielder slotted the ball home shocking the visitors. The visitors kept pushing for an equaliser and things got a wee bit harder when following a dubious second booking young FLEMING was sent for an early bath but with 10 minutes left the visitors salvaged the tie when NJIE followed up from an ANDY WALLS  cross.

Both teams searched for a winner but the game petered out and the referee blew for full time and it was now on to the dreaded penalty shootout.

After he blundered in the second half goalkeeper THAIN became the hero saving two penalties and with HART WILSON AND TIMMONS scoring for the visitors.

Forfar west end took their place in the quarter-finals winning 3 1 on penalties much to the relief of manager lawson who was proud of his patched-up side who progressed in awful conditions.
