Hetton Lyons U10's 2-1 Deerness Valley Thunder U8's

The start of a new season for the boys and with a few changes in the squad and little time playing together before the season it was going to be an interesting first match.

Things started positively with the boys occupying more than their fair share of posession in both halfs although scoring chances were more prominent in the first half.  The boys were each given their own individual missions to try and achieve such as "take more shots", "head up before passing", "get passed your man every time you can" and "put them under pressure quickly".  It was hoped these would not only develop them personally but also work in harmony with each other and the overall teams objective.

The lads stuck together well and limited Deereness to very few opportunities.  Unity, and hard work are the foundations we have set out for this team and their mutual response to this was evident throughout the game providing good signs for the games ahead.  The overall effect of the training and effort the boys have put in over the pre-season period was a comfortable 2-1 vicyory.  The scoreline suggests very little room to claim a comfortable victory, but with Deereness Thunders goal only coming from a dubious and accidental hand ball in the box, their chances were few and far between as we maintained a good level of posession and attacking momentum throughout the match.  Fenton was able to capitalise on our persitsence and collective hard work by bagging himself a brace of goals to set his goal tally off for the season.

Good start lads, lets keep growing and maturing the effort and attitude we have shown already and the results will take care of themselves.
