Lytham St Annes YMCA Girls U-15s 5-0 Academy Juniors

YMCA were crowned cup champions after a fantastic performance at Townley Park in Burnley last Sunday. The game started brightly with YMCA grateful for goalkeeper Olivia Neal for pulling off some great saves early on to deny Academy from taking an early lead and she remained outstanding throughout with her dominant and brave reactions. YMCA eventually made their efforts pay though and took the lead in the 22nd min from a fine breakaway which resulted in Ellie Etheridge notching her 40th goal of the season. YMCA then made it 2-0 after fine work from Honey Griffith who crossed from the left for Etheridge to score her 2nd and it remained 2-0 at the break. Credit to Academy for their efforts in trying to get back into the game but the YMCA defensive unit of Lara Pilling, Phoebe Davies and Madison Lucas stood solid and firm before Etheridge scored another fine goal to complete her hat trick and put YMCA 3-0. Yasmine Menezes then played in Etheridge again who made no mistake in increasing YMCA’s further and virtually seal the issue with the outstanding Ellie McNally adding a well taken goal to complete victory in the closing minutes. In an excellent team display Etheridge impressed throughout with Georgia Norman, Alicia Iredale and Holly Crossley all notable also. The YMCA girls can feel proud of their overall season’s progress in their very first season of competitive football and they have been a great credit to the YMCA Football Club.
