AFC Darwen 0-1 Lytham St Annes YMCA Girls U-15s

YMCA put in a great overall team display with a fine victory against their East Lancashire rivals at a sunny Witton Park last Sunday. After the two teams had fought out a 1-1 draw just a couple of weeks ago at Seafield Rd this return fixture was always going to be a close contest and so it proved. Chances created by both teams were few and far between with YMCA’s rearguard of goalkeeper Olivia Neal, Saisha Bracken and Madison Lucas standing firm throughout giving them great platform to search for a winner. One YMCA’s few opportunities fell to Ellie McNally but her shot hit the outside of the post and it remained goalless at half time. YMCA continued to work hard after the restart and they deservedly made a breakthrough midway through the 2nd half. After a great interception by Saisha Bracken she found Honey Griffith who rifled the ball from outside the box into the corner of the net.  YMCA had to dig deep as Darwen went all out for an equaliser but held on to claim a well earned three points. Georgia Norman was outstanding in midfield, striker Isabelle Kells was a constant threat all afternoon with Holly Crossley notable also.
