AFC Darwen 1-0 Lytham St Annes YMCA Girls U-15s

This was the first match that the Under 11's girls had ever played and they can go home very proud of their first performance against unbeaten league leaders AFC Darwen. YMCA started brightly and were more than a match for their strong opponents. Honey Griffith was a constant threat up front but despite some good approach play YMCA were unable to find the back of the net. At the back goalkeeper, Olivia Neal was outstanding and she kept the home side at bay with a number of brave saves. Phoebe Davies and Lara Pilling were also outstanding in defence and marshalled the home team's centre forward for most of the game. Although YMCA conceded a penalty in the second half Neal did enough to put off the striker who blazed over. Unfortunately with 10 minutes left Darwen broke away and scored the decisive goal to settle the game. Although YMCA hit the post late on it wasn't too be for the girls.
