Bolton Wanderers Community Trust Girls Tournament 0-0 Lytham St Annes YMCA Girls U-15s

YMCA girls entered their first tournament and came away as runner's up which was a great achievement for the girls. The tournament was played on the grass pitch of the Macron Stadium - home of Bolton Wanderers FC. Athough the pitches were very small it was still a great moment for the girls to play at a professional football ground.

Their first game was against Manchester based side 'Heyside Angels Jets'. This was a close game with YMCA having chances however they lost thier 1st game 2-1.

The second game was against Liverpool based side 'Town Green Girls' and YMCA put in a good performance to run out 2-1 winners.

The third game saw YMCA come up against a strong Bolton Wanderers side who were favourites for the competition. The Bolton girls were too strong for YMCA and won 3-0.

The fourth game which YMCA had to win to have any chance of progressing to the semi-final saw them face another Manchester based side in ‘Denton Girls’. YMCA put in a fine performance and ran out 4-1 winners to progress to the semi-finals.

In the semi-final YMCA were drawn against local team Academy Juniors who two weeks before they beat in the Cup Final. Looking for revenge Academy took the lead but Ellie Etheridge replied to make it 1-1. YMCA then took the lead with excellent play by Honey Griffith who then finished inside the post to make it 2-1. However with the final minutes remaining Academy equalised to make it 2-2 and take the game into extra time. In a nail biting 5 minutes no further goals were scored which meant the game went to penalties. Ellie Etheridge made no mistake from her penalty. Goalkeeper, Olivia Neal then scored hers. Ellie McNally then scored to make it 3-3 before Academy missed their penalty after a fine save from Neal. Honey Griffith then stepped up to score to win the game for YMCA 4-3 on penalties.

Into the final YMCA were again up against the hosts, Bolton Wanderers. Although YMCA gave it their all the home side were too strong and ran out 4-0 winners.

Overall YMCA can feel very proud of their achievement on a fantastic day at the Macron Stadium.
