AFC Darwen 3-9 Lytham St Annes YMCA Girls U-16s

YMCA girls secured an impressive victory against a previously unbeaten AFC Darwen team on a very cold Sunday morning in East Lancashire.  Conditions were very cold and it was always going to be a challenge for both sides and it was the home side who took the lead with an unstoppable shot past goalkeeper Olivia Neal in the first few minutes.  However YMCA soon came into the game led by captain Ellie McNally who drove forward and saw her shot saved by the goalkeeper but Isabelle Kells was on hand to fire home to make it 1-1.  A throw in from Megan Lewis then fell to McNally who made no mistake to make it 1-2.  YMCA were now playing some excellent football and some great play from Georgia Norman on the right saw her shot loop over the goalkeeper to make it 1-3.  YMCA were thankful to goalkeeper Olivia Neal who pulled off some important saves and was excellent throughout.  It was Kells again who increased the advantage for YMCA after the goalkeeper failed to keep hold of her shot to make it 1-4 going into the interval.  After the break YMCA kept on pressing and a throw in from McNally caused havoc in the box and an unlucky AFC Darwen defended deflected the ball over the home goalkeeper to make it 1-5.  An almost identical goal soon followed after another great throw in from McNally was headed into the goal by a Darwen defender to make it 1-6.  McNally wasn't finished there and she strode through the midfield to powerfully finish to make it 1-7.  Darwen though never gave up and scored to make it 2-7.  YMCA were not finished and Saisha Bracken saw her shot rebound off the home goalkeeper and it was Kells who was on hand again to notch her hatrick to make it 2-8. Further goals followed and Darwen scored a consolation to make it 3-8 however the final say belonged to McNally who once again strode through the midfield to score her hatrick goal to make the final score 3-9.  In an excellent team performance Lara Pilling, Madison Lucas, Megan Lewis, Honey Griffith and Annabelle Jackson were all notable.
