Lytham St Annes YMCA Girls U-16s 7-3 AFC Darwen

YMCA produced an excellent performance to claim all three points at a sunny but cold Seafield Rd last Sunday.  With a strong breeze at their backs YMCA started brightly and created a number of chances but found the visitors’ keeper in fine form denying them on numerous occasions.  Midway through the half though YMCA were caught on the break and the visitors scored to take a 1-0 lead.  However YMCA were soon back on level terms when Annabelle Jackson found captain Ellie McNally who made no mistake to make it 1-1.  Roles were reversed when after a McNally effort struck the post Jackson was on hand to collect the rebound and give YMCA a 2-1 lead going into the break.  The visitors, with the wind in their favour in the 2nd half, equalised soon after the restart in what was proving to be a thoroughly entertaining contest.  Jackson, who was outstanding throughout, restored YMCA’s lead when she got on the end of a McNally corner and fired home and shortly after she completed her hat trick with another fine finish after some more excellent build up play from YMCA.  McNally then capped off an excellent performance with another well taken goal to make it 5-2.  The visitors did get back into the game and once again caught YMCA on the break to make the score 5-3 but as the visitors began to tire YMCA grew stronger and Isabelle Kells, who was prominent throughout in YMCA’s attacks, got into the act with a well taken goal after being setup by Jackson.  It was Kells again who finished the rout with her second goal to round off a fine YMCA victory.  In an excellent team performance Honey Griffith, Georgia Norman, Yasmine Menezes and goalkeeper Olivia Neal were all notable.
