16 Oct 2016 11.00AM LFA U13 County Cup
Lytham St Annes YMCA Girls U-16s | 3-7 | Bury Girls & Ladies |
YMCA suffered their first defeat of the season in the Lancashire FA County Cup against a strong Bury side in wet and blustery conditions at Seafield Road last Sunday. Playing against the wind in the first half was always going to be a challenge and Bury took the game to YMCA from the outset and it was no surprise when they took an early lead. Midway through the half the visitors went 2-0 ahead leaving YMCA a lot of work to do to get back into the game and Bury added another goal to go into the break with a 3-0 lead. Although YMCA improved after the restart they found themselves facing an uphill battle as Bury scored another 3 goals to take a 6-0 lead. However YMCA responded well and captain Ellie McNally strode through the Bury defence to pull a goal back. The visitors though scored a seventh goal but YMCA never gave up and chances by Georgia Norman, Annabelle Jackson and Honey Griffith all hit the post as they went on all-out attack. Griffith though who was notable throughout found space and hit a fine shot to pull another goal back and with seconds remaining Megan Lewis dribbled past two defenders and scored off a rebound from the goalkeeper for a third YMCA goal. Although YMCA will be disappointed with the scoreline their second half display against a very good side merited more goals. Madison Lucas had a fine game in defence.
