Cadley 3-6 Lytham St Annes YMCA Girls U-16s

YMCA produced a fine team performance to earn a well deserved victory against an impressive Cadley side at Preston last Sunday.  This was always going to be a close game and it was the home side who opened the scoring. However YMCA then began to win more of the 50/50 balls and levelled the scores when Annabelle Jackson was on hand to finish smartly and make it 1-1.  Soon after a corner from Ellie McNally caused havoc in the Cadley defence and the ball sailed straight into the goal despite the best efforts of the goalkeeper to give YMCA a 2-1 lead.  YMCA were now well in their stride and some excellent interplay saw McNally drive down the right hand side and her cross found Georgia Norman who finished superbly with her left foot to further increase their lead and it remained 3-1 at half time. After the restart Cadley came out with purpose and quickly pulled a goal back.  Minutes later they made it 3-3 after hesitation in the YMCA defence allowed their striker to nip and score.  YMCA however dug in and showed their class and teamwork and it was good work again from Norman who crossed from the right to Isabelle Kells who made no mistake to restore her team’s lead.  Kells was a constant menace and it was her determination which saw her shot come off the goalkeeper but she was on hand to fire home the rebound.   Victory was sealed when a shot by McNally could only be parried by the keeper in the slippery conditions and Kells was again on hand to score from the rebound to give YMCA a hard earned 6-3 win. In an excellent team display Megan Lewis, Lara Pilling, Madison Lucas and Saisha Bracken were all notable in defence with goalkeeper Olivia Neal also in fine form with some excellent saves.
