Lytham St Annes YMCA Girls U-16s 4-2 Cadley

YMCA secured an impressive victory against close rivals Cadley at a breezy Seafield Road last Sunday. This was always promised to be a close game with two evenly matches sides but it was YMCA who started the stronger and took the lead inside 2 mins. An Ellie McNally corner broke in the box for Honey Griffith to rifle the ball home to put them 1-0 ahead. The visitors started to come back into the game and put YMCA under pressure but the rearguard of Olivia Neal, Megan Lewis, Lara Pilling and Phoebe Davies impressive throughout and stood strong. YMCA had a chance to increase their lead but a missed penalty ensured the visitors were still in the game by just trailing 1-0 at half time. With the breeze at their backs after the break YMCA began to take control and some great work from Isabelle Kells on the left hand side saw her beat three defenders before firing home to make it 2-0. Cadley responded well though and pulled a goal back but Annabelle Jackson restored YMCA’s 2-goal lead when she fired home a cross from her strike partner Kells. Still the visitors did not give up and scored again with 10 mins to go to. However the final say was with YMCA when Jackson capped off a fine display to make it 4-2 after good work from McNally. In an impressive team performance Georgia Norman was outstanding throughout.
