Euxton Girls

23 Apr 2017   1.00PM   North Valley & Burnley Unity League

Lytham St Annes YMCA Girls U-16s 2-0 Euxton Girls

YMCA travelled to the Prairie Sportsgound in Burnley last Sunday with three of their players having suffered illnesses during the week and it was hardly surprising that they struggled to find their normal rhythm in the early stages. Euxton had most of the possession during the first half but YMCA’s rearguard battled hard to restrict them from creating many clear cut chances and it remained goalless at half time.  Despite facing the stiff breeze in the second half though YMCA came much more into the game and snatched the lead with a brilliant solo goal midway through the half. Isabelle Kells collected the ball just inside Euxton’s half and set off on a mazy run past several defenders before scoring with a fine finish. They had to work hard to retain their lead but a place in next month’s final was clinched in the closing stages when a long throw-in by Ellie McNally caused confusion in the Euxton defence and the ball ran loose to Kells who netted her second of the game from close range. Lara Pilling, Maddison Lucas and Saisha Bracken were all notable in a very gutsy and hard working team display and current league leaders YMCA are now hopeful of achieving the league and cup double.
