Lytham St Annes YMCA Girls U-16s 5-2 Euxton Girls

YMCA produced an excellent performance to beat rivals Euxton in windy conditions last Sunday.  They started the game brightly and were first to the ball in the opening stages.  They deservedly took the lead when Annabelle Jackson lobbed the ball into the area to Honey Griffith who made no mistake to make it 1-0.  YMCA soon doubled their lead after more good play led to Saisha Bracken netting with a sweet strike from outside the box.  YMCA continued to press making it difficult for Euxton to get a foothold into the game and they made it 3-0 when a cross from the left by captain Ellie McNally found Jackson who took two touches before smartly netted with a shot inside the post.  With YMCA well on top a corner from Yasmine Menezes caused havoc in the visitors defence and Isabelle Kells was on hand to finish to make it 4-0.  Just before the break though, Euxton did manage to pull a goal back to make the score 4-1 at the interval.  Euxton began to get more into the game after the restart and put YMCA under sustained pressure but goalkeeper Olivia Neal was outstanding despite sustaining a knee injury in the first half.  Kells was a nuisance to the Euxton defence throughout the game and it was her pressure that forced a mistake from a visitors’ defender and she found Jackson who again finished with aplomb to make it 5-1.  Euxton did manage to make their second half pressure count and they scored a second goal with 10 mins remaining but YMCA continued to battle hard and deservedly claimed the three points.  In an impressive YMCA team performance, Lara Pilling, Georgia Norman, Madison Lucas and Phoebe Davies were all notable.
