Feniscowles & Pleasington 5-4 Lytham St Annes YMCA Girls U-16s

YMCA were unlucky to come away with nothing from this game in East Lancashire on Sunday.  They started brightly with set pieces taken by Ellie McNally causing havoc in the home defence one of which led to them taking the lead when from a McNally corner Isabelle Kells fired home. YMCA doubled their lead from another corner which resulted in a header from Ellie Etheridge finding the net. YMCA seemed to be cruising but the home side were always dangerous on the break and they pulled a goal back midway through the first half and just before half time they leveled the scores at 2-2.  YMCA came out with purpose after the restart led by Honey Griffith, Etheridge and McNally in midfield with some fine passing moves starting inside their own half one of which led to an excellent cross from Annabelle Jackson finding Etheridge to restore their lead with her 2nd goal of the game. Further excellent YMCA play followed and the impressive Etheridge who, was causing mayhem in the home defence, making 4-2.  YMCA had further opportunities to increase their lead and these missed chances came back to haunt them. As the home side came back into the game they reduced the score after YMCA failed to clear their lines at a corner and from another set piece for the home side netted again to make it 4-4.  The home side were now in the ascendancy and they caught YMCA on the break to take the lead for the first time in the match with only minutes remaining.  Although YMCA pressed hard for the equaliser it was not to be and they were left frustrated in their efforts.  Lara Pilling in defence and goalkeeper, Olivia Neal were both notable for YMCA throughout.
