Lytham St Annes YMCA Girls U-16s 6-4 Feniscowles & Pleasington

YMCA produced a stunning performance to reach the cup final in their first season as a team with a well deserved victory at Burnley last Sunday. Despite facing a higher placed team in their league they went out with nothing to lose but fell behind early in game although keeper Olivia Neal felt hard done by after having the ball kicked out of her hands before the goal was scored. However YMCA soon levelled with leading goalscorer Ellie Etheridge making no mistake with a fine finish. An outstanding ball from Honey Griffith then found Etheridge who netted again then to put YMCA 2-1 in front. With the game in full swing Feniscowles equalised but Etheridge pounced again to make it 3-2 to YMCA. Georgia Norman, who was outstanding throughout, then provided the assist for Etheridge to bag her 4th goal to end a pulsating first half with YMCA   4-2 in front. The pace didn’t let up after the break and Feniscowles pulled the score back to 4-3. However YMCA were again not to be outdone with Etheridge scoring another fine goal to make it 5-3. Feniscowles came back once more though to make it 5-4 to create a tense ending to the contest. YMCA though upped a gear and Etheridge netted again to complete her double hat trick and seal a thrilling victory. In a superb YMCA team performance Ellie McNally was outstanding in midfield. Lara Pilling impressed in defence with Olivia Neal a steady influence also in goal. YMCA now look forward to facing Academy Juniors in the final next month.
