Lostock Hall 2-5 Lytham St Annes YMCA Girls U-16s

YMCA fully deserved their victory against league leaders Lostock Hall on a sunny but cold Sunday afternoon in Preston.  Going into the game both teams were undefeated in the league but it was YMCA who were victorious with an impressive team performance.  The home side got an early advantage and took the lead in the 2nd minute after YMCA failed to clear in the penalty area to make 1-0. However YMCA soon leveled after a great throw in from Ellie McNally caused havoc in the home defence and Isablle Kells pounced to make it 1-1.  Lostock Hall though were dangerous going forward and a fortunate deflection in the YMCA defence saw the ball fall to a home player who made no mistake to make it 2-1.  YMCA though never gave up and with seconds remaining in the first half scored an equaliser after another excellent long throw from McNally was not cleared and Isabelle Kells struck past the home goalkeeper to make it 2-2.  With YMCA now in the ascendancy they started to take the game to Lostock Hall driven forward by the excellent Ellie McNally.  They took the lead after Kells saw her shot squirm under the keeper to make it 2-3.  McNally whose long throw was a constant source of danger was again involved after her throw was not cleared and it was Kells again who scored her fourth goal to make it 2-4.  With a few minutes remaining YMCA made the game safe after McNally drove forward and her shot was parried by the goalkeeper however Annabelle Jackson was on hand to score YMCA's fifth to make it 2-5.  In an excellent team display Megan Lewis was dominant in defence, Honey Griffith in midfield and goalkeeper Olivia Neal was assured and brave when called upon. Phoebe Davies was also notable.
