Lostock Hall 2-3 Lytham St Annes YMCA Girls U-16s

YMCA put in a tremendous team performance to come out with all three points in a thoroughly entertaining game played at Lostock High School on Sunday afternoon.  The early part of the game was a tense affair with both teams cancelling each other out.  However a long throw in from Ellie McNally caused havoc in the home defence and Isabelle Kells was on hand to nip and score to make it 0-1.  The home side was always dangerous and their physical presence caused problems at set pieces and it was from a corner that YMCA failed to clear and the home striker made it 1-1.  After the break YMCA came out with more purpose and played some excellent football.  A fine through pass from Mia Woodhouse found Abigail Smith who calmly shot past the goalkeeper to make it 1-2.  Goalkeeper, Olivia Neal was outstanding throughout and pulled off some important saves and interceptions.  It was her long kick that led to Isabelle Kells being free on goal.  Her shot was saved by the home goalkeeper however Kells was on hand with the rebound to score and make it 1-3.  With 10 minutes remaining hesitation in the YMCA defence resulted in Lostock Hall scoring again to make it 2-3.  This led to a pulsating last few minutes but YMCA held on to claim a vital victory.  Fran Lyons, Honey Griffith and Ellie Jones were notable throughout.
