Lytham St Annes YMCA Girls U-16s 4-2 Myerscough

YMCA were made to work hard to secure this victory against a useful Myerscough team at a sunny Seafield Rd last Sunday. They started slowly and were second to every ball in the opening minutes and it was no surprise when they went behind after 15 minutes.  However, YMCA were always going to be a danger on the break with the pace and skill of their front two of Isabelle Kells and Annabelle Jackson.  In the 15th min after good work from Georgia Norman she found Kells on the left and she swivelled inside two defenders before netting with a sweet strike low into the far corner.  Myerscough though were stronger in the tackle and regained the lead when hesitation in the YMCA defence allowed their striker to finish and take a 2-1 lead into the break.  YMCA came out for the second half much more resilient and determined and were soon back on level terms. Honey Griffith played an excellent pass to Kells on the left and after cutting inside she struck the ball past the keeper to make it 2-2. The catalyst for an improved second half display was Megan Lewis who was pushed up into midfield in the second half and her energy and drive resulted in her going  clear on goal and finding the top corner of the net with a ferocious drive to give her team a 3-2 lead.  As the game entered its closing stages YMCA were awarded an indirect free kick after a deliberate back pass and with a well taken routine the ball fell to Jackson who finished well to complete a fine victory. In a tale of two halves for YMCA keeper Olivia Neal was notable as was Madison Lucas in defence.
