Lytham St Annes YMCA Girls U-16s 2-2 Myerscough

An out of sorts YMCA had to be content with a point at a sunny but cold Seafield Road last Sunday. Due to holidays and illness they were missing three players which meant only having one substitute. However, the visitors were worse affected and had to play with a player short but despite this handicap made the better start to the game and deservedly took the lead mid way through the first half by capitalising on hesitation in the YMCA defence. YMCA though started to put their game together and after some sustained pressure Georgia Norman took advantage of a poor clearance by the visitors’ keeper to fire home an equaliser. Myerscough though regained the lead in the closing stages of the first half after YMCA’s defence failed to clear from a corner and it was 2-1 at the break. Led by captain Ellie McNally YMCA displayed much more commitment after the restart and it was McNally who scored a 2nd YMCA equaliser with a fine strike from outside the penalty, the ball going into the net off the underside of the crossbar. YMCA were thankful though to goalkeeper Olivia Neal for keeping them level by pulling off some fine saves but in the end a draw was a fair result although YMCA will feel these were two points dropped in their league campaign. Phoebe Davies was notable in the YMCA rearguard as was Yasmine Menezes in midfield.
