20/21ST february 2016

Following the sunshine of the previous weekend it was back to normal this weekend with rain on the Saturday and a gale force wind on the Sunday. It was wild and windy for our 14s and 16s Boys teams at Seafield on the Sunday afternoon making conditions very difficult for football  Our 14s took on Fleetwood Town and the opening stages evenly contested. However we went ahead midway through the 1st half when Jake Molloy netted with a thunderous 35yd drive. Town levelled soon afterwards but we regained the lead with a Toby Grant strike to put us 2-1 up at the interval. Both teams continued to battle hard in the very windy conditions but YMCA gradually began to take the initiative and scored again with a superbly placed left foot shot by Spencer Baxendale from the edge of the area. The visitors were a little unlucky not to reduce the deficit in the closing minutes when a 20yd drive bounced down off the crossbar on to the line before being cleared by a YMCA defender but in the end a 3-1 victory for YMCA was just about deserved. Over on the senior pitch our 16s maintained their title challenge with an excellent 4-0 victory over Poulton FC with Ross Hart and Pat Lonsdale both notching pairs.

In a blustery morning at Seafield our 16s Girls were against table toppers Bolton Whites who arrived with an unbeaten record. This was always going to be a tough task for our girls facing such a strong outfit but they shook the visitors by taking the lead with a goal from Poppy Bunting. The overall strength of the Bolton side though told in the end and they went home with a 7-1 victory despite an outstanding display by YMCA keeper Ashleigh Leach. YMCA's Under 11s and 12s 9-a-side teams were both without a fixture this weekend
