WEEKEND 16/17 JANUARY 2016

FROM FLOODED TO FROZEN PITCHES - SEAFIELD AGAIN CLOSED

Following two and a half months of relentless rainfall which has washed out almost entire fixture lists for weeks on end, it was a different problem this weekend. A heavy overnight frost on the Friday night brought about the first real taste of winter. Unfortunately it caused pitches to become too hard and treacherous for games to be played so again most scheduled fixtures were called off. Games at Seafield were declared unplayable by the referees. Our 12s did manage to play though thanks to the 4G all weather pitch at the Fuce Sports Complex in Thornton. We were taking on Fleetwood Town on a very cold morning but our lads started cold as well. We were 2-0 down inside 10 mins before we really got going. After spurning several chances a fine headed goal by Spencer Phillips from a well flighted corner by Josh Edwards brought us back to 2-1 at half time. We continued to create chances after the restart as well but as we were pushing forward in search of an equaliser we were caught out on the break and the home side added a 3rd goal to clinch a 3-1 victory. All other YMCA teams were forced out of action by the weather.
