WEEKEND 30th APRIL / 1st MAY 2016

11s CLINCH 3rd SUCCESSIVE CUP FINAL PLACE - 16s BOYS END YOUTH FOOTBALL DAYS WITH VICTORY - 8s WIN TOURNAMENT

This weekend saw the arrival of May but throughout the previous week you would never had guessed it as we had light snow, hailstones, heavy showers and a cold wind. It was more like a week in January.  It was quite an emotional day for our 16s Boys on the Sunday when the boys played their last  game in youth football. This team was superbly managed up until last season by Duncan Cowburn and Benny Hawkins took over the reins for this final campiagn with Bill Fisher continuing in his assistant managers' role. The team won many league and cup honours since it was formed at Under 9s in 2008 and the players and management team has always been a huge credit to our club by the quality of football consistently produced and by the exemplary conduct of the players and team officials at all times. They never had a player sent off during this 8-year period with hardly a yellow card shown either. Before last Sunday they had already claimed the runners up spot and made sure they finished the season on a high with a fine 3-1 victory away at Layton Blues. Our marksmen were George Hawkins, Isaac Eastham and Bradley Jones.

After winning the Coulton Cup in the previous two seasons at Under 9s and 10s our 11s made it a hat trick of Cup Final appearances with an excellent semi final victory away at Fleetwood Town Reds. Strikes by Charlee McGuiness, Noah Mawene and Harry Birkman gave us an impressive 3-0 win. Our 8s were involved in a tournament at Common Edge Rd this May Day Bank Holiday weekend and they performed superbly throughout the two days to come home with the winners trophy.
