12s COUNTY CUP HOPES END IN SHOOTOUT - GOALS GALORE THIS WEEKEND - OLI BAGS FIVE FOR 13s BOYS ON HIS YMCA DEBUT - 16s GIRLS GUTSY DISPLAY EARNS THEM FIRST VICTORY
Our Under 12s Boys' County Cup ambitions were ended this weekend at Seafield in the cruelest of ways. Cherrybrook from Wigan were the visitors in this 4th round tie on a bright but bitterly cold morning and we started brightly with Noah Mawene putting us ahead in the 15th min and we reached half time with this 1-0 lead. Cherrybrook came much more into the game in the 2nd half and it was no real surprise when they levelled the scores 10 mins from time. It ended in a 1-1 draw meaning a penalty shootout to decide which team would clinch a place in the quarter finals. Unfortunately it was Cherrybrook who held their nerve the better and won the shootout 4-3 and they probably just deserved their win on the day.
There were plaenty of YMCA goals this weekend. Our 13s Boys had an 8-1 win over Poulton Town at Seafield with Oli Hesford making a dream YMCA debut by bagging five of our goals. On the next pitch our 15s also had a big win over Poulton Town. We ran out 11-1 winners with Toby Grant capping a great performance with four of our goals. Over at Mythop Rd our 14s notched up a 7-1 victory over neighbours Lytham Jun, Marco Amin leading the way with a pair. On the Saturdayb our 12s maintained their 100% league record with an emphatic 10-0 defeat of Lytham Jun, Harry Gledhill weighing in with a hat trick. Our 16s Girls cvlaimed their first win of the season at Euxton despite having to play a man short throughout the game when three players cried off at late notice. Despite this handicap though our girls displayed great determination and a double strike by Molly Dyer gave us gutsy and excellent 2-1 victory.
