Club maintenance

Posted Saturday 21st July 2018

The club is in need of a little TLC so we have arranged a day where it is hoped volunteers will come down and lend a hand on Saturday 21st July at 10am.

Jobs to tackle include the painting of the bar area and changing rooms. repairs to flooring and doors and also just a general sort out and tidy up of all the kit and equipment.

If there are any tradesman in the club specialising in flooring and carpentary please contact the managers as there are acouple of jobs that require a tradesmans skills(obviously willing to pay for these).

Presentation Evening

Sandy Football Club held its annual Presentation Evening at Sandy Roundabout Club on Saturday May 19th with nearly 60 players, officials, committee members and supporters attending. Prior to a buffet meal, Club Chairman Colin Osborne welcomed everyone to the Evening.

The past season had been one of two halves for each team. The 1st team had started well and had topped their division in the early part of the season before injuries, suspensions and work commitments had seen the side slowly slide down the table to finish halfway. The Reserves had seen the opposite – with the side taking time to settle but then finishing the season with an unbeaten run of eight games to also finish mid-table. The Sunday side had, at one time, been looking at the possibility of a league and cup double but poor results towards the end of the season saw the team lose in the semi-finals and finish the league in third spot.

However, the season had finished on a high note with the Club winning the East-Beds Charity Cup three weeks ago 4-2 against Elstow Abbey and regaining the trophy they last won in 2014.

Dean Wren presented his awards to the following 1st team players: Manager’s Player – Jonnie Stratford; Players’ Player – Jonnie Stratford; Leading Goalscorer – Matt Johnson; Clubman – Dan Whitten; and Goal of the Season Award went to Tom Hunt.

Richard Wheatley presented his awards to the following Reserve team players: Manager’s Player – Jon Bone; Players’ Player – Adam Hayes; Leading Goalscorer – Liam Brophy; Clubman – Jackson Seldon and the Goal of the Season Award went to Aaron Seldon.

Adam Jones presented the following awards to the Sunday team players: Manager’s Player – Jack Gaylor; Players’ Player – James Pyman; Leading Goalscorer – Connor Green; Clubman – Ian Rushton and Rob Kelly and Goal of the Season went to Dan Threadgold.

The Len Cox Award, presented annually to someone in the Club whom the Committee believed had contributed greatly to the life of the Club, was presented to Derek Rowntree, the Club’s Treasurer.

Colin also paid tribute to Jim Jacobs who was standing down as Secretary – but remaining as Fixture Secretary – and thanked Richard Seldon who was stepping up to that role. Colin also mentioned that next season – his nineteenth – would be his final one as Chairman.

The Evening concluded with some fun fundraising activities.

Training starts at Bedford on Wednesday 5th July and then after every Wednesday at 7pm as well as sunday mornings at 10am. It then moves onto the astroturf at Sandy upeer school from September.

Car Parking. The Club would like to ask all players, staff and supporters to only park along the pitch side of Bedford Road when attending training, matches and meetings and to avoid parking in Albion Court and the opposite side of Bedford road. If needed additional parking is available in the town centre market square with free all day parking.Thank you for your co-operation.

Fair Play, Respect and Good conduct

Sandy FC as a Charter Standard Club have a strong commitment to providing a fair, safe and respectable family friendly club for their local town. All players are expected to conduct themselves appropriately whenever they represent Sandy FC both during training sessions and at match days.

Players are asked to ensure that when playing, training and spectating they keep bad language to a minimum and respect the local residents that reside around our home ground and training pitches. It is up to the players to set an example to our local community and those young children that come to watch us play. We are all role models for the future generations of Sandy FC players.

We thank all the players in advance for helping the club to promote this message of fair play and respect. Enjoy the 2018/19 season.

Committee Members - The Club are keen to recruit volunteers to join their committee and assist in the running of the club. The club would welcome players from all of it's teams onto the committee as well as individuals who have no current ties with the team. If you are interested in taking a more active role for your local club then please contact Chairman Colin Osborne via email [email protected] or on 01767 682032.
